Our goal is to learn together and strive toward zero food waste.

Orchard volunteers have utilized non-traditionally harvested fruit to make cider, feed horses, produce compost, and generate biogas amongst other creative uses.

Green Thumb Orchard Grower's Collective meets weekly to care for the overall health and production of the orchard.

Background

History & notes

The Brentwood Community Garden was established in 1997 on the Green Thumb property, jointly owned by Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) and Portland Public Schools. The garden features several perennial edible plants including figs, grapes, seaberries, currants, and more. In 2010, additional space was converted to community garden beds near the intersection of SE 57th Avenue and Cooper Street. This new garden area was named Brentwood North Community Garden and the older section renamed Brentwood South Community Garden.
